The Oregon State Police need your help finding the person(s) responsible for poaching several elk in the northwest part of the state.
Officers discovered a dead spike and cow on August 23, 2020, on US Forest Service road 5390 outside of Waldport in Lincoln County. The perpetrators took most of the meat from the spike (photo on left) but left the entire cow to waste. Authorities believed the incident took place the previous evening.
On September 13, troopers received information that fresh skeletal remains of a bull elk (photo on right) turned up on private property between Mt. Richmond Road and Williams Canyon Road in Yamhill County. Evidence at the scene indicates someone harvested the animal during the first two weeks of the general archery season but did not have permission to hunt on the property.
If you have any information regarding either incident, call the TIP line at 1-800-452-7888 or dial *OSP or send an email to TIP@state.or.us.
For 2020, Remington partnered with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation to increase the visibility of poaching incidents in an effort to reduce poaching nationwide.
